Yellowstone in the Abstract

The thermal basins photographed less as landscape than as pattern — bacterial mats, drifting steam, and mineral water doing things color isn't supposed to do. And the geysers that made everyone look up.

Steam drifting across a thermal pool that mirrors the clouds
Runoff terraces at Grand Prismatic reflecting the sky
Runoff channels braiding across the mineral terrace toward the hills
Orange bacterial mat patterns, steam rising beyond
Clouds reflected in the thin water of a thermal flat
A hot spring ringed in orange, deep blue at the throat
Grand Prismatic Spring from the overlook, teal ringed with rust
Old Faithful's steam column against a morning sky
A geyser erupting into a sunset sky
Steam columns silhouetted against the orange dusk
